Sorry About My Breath!

Tackle Your Bad Breath at the Source

Whether it’s from eating candy-laden snacks, drinking coffee, smoking or something else altogether, one thing people with bad breath have in common is they are not alone!

Not all cases of halitosis (bad breath) stem from the same cause. While for some bad breath may simply be the result of eating onions on their salad or their daily cup of coffee, others may find that their halitosis is a sign of a serious health condition.

Common Causes of Halitosis

Diet

Of course bits of food left in the mouth or trapped between teeth will cause bad breath. As these foods break down in the mouth, they release volatile sulfur compound and cause that classic, food-related-bad-breath smell.

Other foods, such as onions, garlic and cabbage cause bad breath by releasing their oils into your bloodstream, which carries them to your lungs! This is why onion or garlic breath can last for days,  even if you brush your teeth or use mouthwashes or breath mints.

Poor Brushing Habits

Proper brushing is one good way to combat bad breath. Remember to gently brush the gum line as well as your teeth. This technique helps dislodge food and bacteria trapped in the gum line.

Balancing Bacteria = Reducing Bad Breath

Since the volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) responsible are released by the bacteria breaking down food particles in the mouth, one simple way to effectively improve breath around the clock is the improve the bacterial balance in the mouth. Beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, can crowd out the balance of the bad, VSC-producing bacteria.

Adding probiotics to your brushing regimen is as easy as popping a probiotic mint after brushing.

It’s time to kiss that bad breath good-bye!
