Service Dogs Are Not Pets
Thanks to several of my loyal followers, I learned a very important lesson.
Service dogs are not pets. I learned that pets are companions, like my dog Emma. Pets can even be important family members, but pets are not service dogs. Service dogs are highly trained to meet the disability-related needs of their handlers.
Because of the vital role they play, you will see service dogs allowed in all types of setting where pets would be prohibited like on airplanes, in restaurants, the movies even in the post office. These amazing dogs allow their handlers to enjoy an increased level of independence because of the service they render.
Service dogs can do everything from assisting those with disabilities, to K-9 dogs who assist the police to search and rescue and beyond. Service dogs are trained to go above and beyond the duty of a household pet, and in doing so, they contribute to the greater good of our society.
THANK YOU!
I want to thank all those who took the time to write to me and help me understand this very important distinction. I want to apologize for any confusion that I may have created. I appreciate the opportunity to learn from each one of you and welcome your feedback .
