Good Morning? Good Grief!

Make Your Morning Breath Fresh Enough To Kiss!

Are you stumped by morning breath? I mean, each night, you brush, you floss and you use that super-strength mouthwash. But when you roll over to kiss your sweetie good morning, all you get is a cold shoulder and a groan – “Your breath!”

Ah, Morning Breath, the Bane of Good Morning Kisses

Turn Morning Breath to Kissable Breath

Maybe you didn’t know you had morning breath until the honeymoon was ending and your significant other piped up, or maybe you can taste it. Go ahead and Google “morning breath.” You’ll read everything from you didn’t brush your teeth well enough or you need to floss more often to your open (or closed) mouth accumulates bacteria from your nose (or the air) while you sleep.

Sounds like we don’t really know what the real cause of morning breath is. The truth of the matter is that bad breath can be caused by many things, including the decay of food trapped between teeth, post-nasal drip and, yes, bacteria. Mostly it depends on what’s going on in your mouth.

Did you eat garlic or onions for dinner? How about milk before bed? Do you snore, or sleep with your mouth open? All of these things can contribute to morning breath.

How Can I Kiss Morning Breath Good-Bye?

First of all, keep up the good work with brushing and flossing. As for the mouthwash? Go ahead and skip it. Sometimes the alcohol in mouthwash contributes to dry mouth, which, left overnight, can cause bad breath.

Mouthwashes also tend to indiscriminately wipe out bacteria in the mouth, which can allow the bad bacteria a good opportunity to overpopulate while you snooze. Those bad bacteria tend to have an annoying byproduct, called Volatile Sulfur Compounds, which smell just as bad as they sound.

The best way to keep those smelly bacteria in check is to introduce beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, into the mouth. These probiotics coat the teeth leaving little room for the stinky, morning-breath causing bacteria to populate.

Simply allowing a probiotic mint to melt in your mouth after brushing your teeth each morning and evening can help you kiss bad breath good-bye!
