Dangers of Whitening Your Teeth

Each time I log onto basically any popular Internet site, I see ads that promise crazy things. My personal favorites include the ads that claim I can lose 11 pounds in 7 days, and especially the one with a photo of that adorable hunky guy and the message “click here to see who has been searching for you,” as though I can expect to find out some hunk has been trying to track me down for a date.

Dangers of Whitening Your TeethOne common set of ads that has caught my eye of late, however, are the ads that promise to whiten teeth. These ads make outrageous claims, including how quickly they can whiten and brighten my teeth in a matter of days.

Why Not Whiten?

From the ads on television for similar products, I can generally figure out that these whitening products are full of harsh, chemical hydrogen peroxide. I also know that these types of strong chemical tooth whiteners may do exactly what they claim to do, but not without a cost. Chemical hydrogen peroxide causes cracks, pits and etching in otherwise healthy teeth. What does this mean for you? Basically, it means that each time you whiten your teeth with any of these products, you are creating more staining surfaces on your teeth. That’s right – stains stick best in cracks and pits, along with roughened tooth surfaces.

What’s a Coffee Drinking Girl to Do if Not Whiten?

I don’t wish to give up that steaming cup of coffee every morning, so I had to do more research to figure out why my teeth stained so easily.  The question became,  how to keep them naturally whiter without damaging my tooth surfaces.

Whitening Without Damage

Here’s what I found: continuous low doses of natural, gentle hydrogen peroxide can whiten teeth without the harmful side effects common in its counterpart, chemical hydrogen peroxide. This is one of the many benefits of an oral probiotic mint I found.

In addition to giving me a whiter, brighter smile, the EvoraPlus probiotics mint also naturally freshens breath and supports gum and tooth health. Now I can enjoy my coffee and my whiter teeth, too!
