Your Dog Will Love These Healthy and Safe Treats

While your dog may LOVE to chew bones, due to choking risks and the risk of bones become lodged in the bowl – or, worse, perforating the bowel, bones are simply not a good treat for dogs.

You may have also heard that giving your dog bones or rawhides to chew on will help freshen breath because they allegedly scrape plaque off the teeth. Pet parents know that this simply isn’t true. Bones don’t put an end to your friend’s bad breath.

Don’t Take Away Our Fun! What Treats Can I Offer My Pooch?

While they may not be the first thing you think to share with your four-footed friends, vegetables can be a great addition to your dog’s diet. Just as we need the nutrients from vegetables, so do our pets. These treats can be steamed to make them easier to chew and digest.

Be sure to avoid choking hazards, such as whole raw carrots and celery, and be aware that some vegetables like garlic and onions can actually be toxic for dogs. Tomatoes and avocados should also be avoided.

Fruits Can Be Healthy Sweet Treats!

Just like many of us, our dogs have a bit of a sweet tooth too. It’s fairly common knowledge that chocolate is toxic for pets, especially baker’s chocolate, which has a much higher theobromine content. Citrus fruits are also not safe for dogs, but many other fruits get the green light – in moderate amounts.

Cored apples make a good sweet treat (remove the seeds as they contain trace amounts of arsenic). Blueberries, apricots, cranberries and bananas are all good sweet treats that help benefit your pal’s health.

If My Dog Eats Sweets Like Fruit, Do I Need To Brush His Teeth

Many vets do recommend brushing your dog’s teeth, but it’s not the easiest task to undertake regularly. One way to improve your pet’s breath and give him cleaner, whiter teeth is to simply sprinkle  specifically formulated probiotics for pet oral care directly on his food once daily. This easy addition to your pooch’s daily dinner naturally addresses their bad breath and stained teeth.
